Every day the internet offers some new piece of evidence showing that "men treat women terribly". And while I know that women are often treated in such a way that younger generations suffer from it (self consciousness due to the media's portrayal of the "typical woman", etc.) many people underestimate the effect of similar conditions on males.
Turn on the TV and you see commercials full of attractive guys getting all the girls, or nerdy guys just getting made fun of. Same with movies. And "what girl doesn't love a musician/artist/man in uniform"? With all the fuss made about us ladies getting unfairly portrayed, support for the guys isn't heard of often. When it is, certain types of women shoot it down. No one seems to realize that for years, the struggle to be fairly portrayed has been fought by both sides.
Not every guy can be that heart-throb athlete, or the bad-boy that pisses off the parents. And not every guy is going to be hiding a six pack under his shirt. We all know the pretty stupid guys, or the "geeks with bad acne". Yet every guy looks into a mirror and realizes the things he does/does not have. As much as girls get self conscious due to what's in their shirts, guys get nervous about their pants.
Despite all of that people STILL believe that girls are solely the victims of the media.
Even if you overlook the aspect of self esteem, there's still a problem of self worth.
Recently, with younger generations of girls becoming stronger in character and in action, there has been a rally cry to not judge your worth by whether or not you're with a guy. Believe it or not, guys face this problem as well. Men are just as likely to believe that they are worthless due to their lack of partner, or even due to their lack of a sexual relationship.
Another result of recent feminine strength is a group of women that try to portray men "as worthless as men portray women". They see men as nothing but objects, similar to the belief that women are just objects. They do this not caring how it affects the amount of males that actually care for women. Groups of females are rallying against males, regardless of the majority that continuously proves the sexist minority wrong.
WOMEN CAN BE SEXIST TOO. IT IS NOT SOLELY A MALE THING.
The sooner people wrap their heads around that and further the acceptance of one another, the sooner nice guys will finish first.
